Also known as the Leeds Devil, it dates back all the way to the time of the Native Americans. The Indian name for the area was Place of the Dragon, and Swedish explorers later named it Drake Kill. However, a 1735 story is what most people in New Jersey believed to be the origins of this beast. Mother Leeds, a witch whose husband was supposedly the devil, had 12 children. She claimed that if she had another it would be a devil. That 13th child was born a normal baby, but quickly changed form. It grew cloven feet and wings, killed the midwife, then flew up through the chimney. Five years later a priest exercised the demon, and so the creature was not seen for another hundred years. History shows that Mother Leeds may be Deborah Leeds. Her husband listed 12 children in his will. That meshes with the story that the 13th child was the devil. But many people believe that the story is just made up by some of the settlers. The Pine Barrens, where the creature disappeared, was a desolate place where many people sought refuge when they didn’t want to be found. Some of these people formed groups, and were called the pineys. Many of these became bandits known as pine robbers. It was natural to imagine beasts and demons arising from this area. Especially since the reputation of the bandits was less than wholesome. There’s a humorous story about the Jersey Devil. An outdoors man by the name of Tom Brown Jr. spent many seasons living in the wilderness. More than once people he met would become terrified thinking he was the Jersey Devil. This often happened after Tom covered his body with mud to keep off the mosquitoes. Seems like the mud worked better to repel people than bugs. Some people believe there’s a more scientific explanation to the Jersey Devil. Cryptozoologists believe that it possibly is a creature with wings and cloven hooves. Others hold that it is the sand hill crane, a native bird with a 7 foot wingspan. Whatever it is the Jersey Devil remains an integral part of the New Jersey mythology. Google next time you’re in Jersey, ask someone to show you this amazing creature. They probably won’t. But it might be fun while looking for it. Devil In Miss Jones
December 28th, 2008 — About Devil
Like many pornography movies, the plot of this one is fairly thin. But unlike many pornography movies the Devil in Miss Jones actually has a coherent plot. It begins with Justine Jones, a spinster who seeks escape from her dull life through suicide. She slits her wrists while in a bathtub and quickly dies. She finds herself in limbo where she meets an angel named Mr. Abaca. He tells her she can’t get into heaven because she has committed suicide. So she begs him to allow her to earn her way into hell by returning to Earth to become a woman of lust. She spends a session with the man known as the Teacher, learning the ways that she ignored during her life. Then she returns to Earth to have many crazy sexual encounters. During her last she is told her time is finished. She is sent to hell where she must spend eternity in a room with with a man who will not have sex with her. That’s a problem, because she has become a raging sex maniac. So ends the Devil in Miss Jones. There were five sequels to the Devil in Miss Jones, none of which matched the success of the original. But in 2005 Vivid Entertainment created a remake that won many adult movie awards. This movie was titled The New Devil in Miss Jones. The woman who played Miss Jones in the original now plays a cleaning lady who has no sexual role. This movie won best cinematography, best screenplay, best editing, best Director, best actress, best film, best supporting actress, and best all girl sex scene. Damiano’s other famous pornography film was Deep Throat. This is considered the film that really began plots in pornography. In this one, a sexually frustrated woman visits the doctor. She finds that her sex organ is located in her throat. The rest is history. Not much of a plot, not as much as the Devil in Miss Jones, but more than most pornography movies have. Gérard Damiano made many other movies besides Deep Throat and the Devil in Miss Jones. His two final films were a series, Naked Goodness and Naked Goodness 2. In the world of pornography films he was one of the best. If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!
Dirt Devil
December 27th, 2008 — About Devil
Dirt Devil has its roots in a company founded in 1905. Royal Manufacturing patented a home vacuum system called Cyclone. 25 million of these vacuums have been sold. When they first were sold they had metal cases. In the 1980s Royal Manufacturing came out with a vacuum with a plastic case. This line was marketed as the Royal Dirt Devil. As they became more and more popular the word royal became less and less prominent until it disappeared altogether. The short name stuck. The company continues to sell the Royal line. It is both higher quality and more expensive than the Dirt Devil. However, the company operates under a different name. That name is TTI Floor Care North America. TTI is an abbreviation for Techtronic Industries which is a company in Hong Kong that makes other vacuum cleaners like Hoover. It’s not uncommon for this to be the case in the modern business world. Mergers and acquisitions cause former rivals to be owned by the same parent company. Then those companies continue to operate under various brand names. They continue to manufacture and improve separate lines of products. That’s because those products already have established sales. It would be foolish to discard those. From 1995 to 2005 the Dirt Devil had a distinctive and well-known slogan. It was ?nothing escapes the power of a Dirt Devil. In 2005 that slogan was retired in favor of a new slogan Fight Dirty. It’s a play on words since a vacuum cleaner will fight dirt. The Dirt Devil Hand Vac was introduced in 1984. It was a classic design with a rotating agitator brush to force dirt out of carpets. It also had a hose to reach hard to reach places. It sold over 25 million units, more than any other hand vac had ever sold in the United States. That brought in money which made future innovation possible. 11 years later, 1996, an upgraded model was introduced. This Dirt Devil was called the Ultra Hand Vac. It featured increased suction power, as well as an extendable hose that folded into the unit. This model is still sold at some stores. In 2005 Dirt Devil began selling its classic model. The distinctive red classic had a HEPA filter and a cup to collect the dirt. That meant it was bagless. Nobody likes to deal with those dirty vacuum cleaner bags. The Dirt Devil has been around for a long time. Constant innovations mean it will likely be around for a long time into the future. If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!
Bikini Devil
December 27th, 2008 — About Devil
Search for the term bikini devil on Google and you will find a variety of websites. Not all of them are the same. Primarily these will be for the devil costumes that are somewhat bikini like, and a rather popular adult website called, of course, bikini devil. It might be a good idea to keep the kids away from the search results. It might also be a good idea to keep your wife away from the search results. That is unless she’s the one doing the search.
First let’s discuss those bikini devil costumes. Most of them have nothing to do with bikinis, but they have everything to do with devils. They’ll be red, like the color of the devil. Some even include a pitchfork and horns. But the closest they get to the look of a bikini, is a top and skirt reminiscent of the old style bathing suits possibly worn by your great great great grandmother. These can hardly be called bikinis.
Costumes with sex appeal, at least for adults, are quite popular for Halloween. The bikini devil, and again although not much of a bikini, fills the bill for a little bit of sex appeal in the spirit of Halloween fun. One can probably make a very good costume of this nature simply by purchasing a red bikini and adding a plastic pitchfork and horns from the local Wal-Mart. That would likely cost a lot less than the store-bought costumes. And it could be worn at the beach during the summer.
Enough about that. Now on to the website bikini devil. This site is possibly misnamed, just as the costume. Because while it does have a lot to do with bikini clad women, there is also a lot of nudity. There are even some depictions of what many people might call X-rated activities. That’s where the warning for the kids comes in. Children might see bikinis at the beach, but much of the content on this website is best left to adult eyes and sensitivities. It’s also not something you want to browse while at work. Although, many people have been known to look at this type of site while on the Internet at the library.
Bikini devil receives a lot of top rankings from sites that review adult type websites. Many of the sites, the review sites that is, are really nothing more than affiliates for these adult sites. Therefore, there are views must be taken with a grain of salt.
So there it is. A bikini devil isn’t just a fallen angel in a swimsuit.

The Devil Wears Prada
December 26th, 2008 — About Devil
The Devil Wears Prada is the name of a novel, a movie based on the novel, as well as a rock band and the concept for a television series. This article focuses on the movie starring Meryl Streep.
The Devil Wears Prada started off as a successful novel in 2003. As with many successful novels it inspired Hollywood to create a movie. The reason so many novels are turned into movies is that they have a built in audience. Like the movie or hate it, people were familiar with the novel will often go to see the movie. So that gives Hollywood an idea that there will be a base audience. At least enough to make back the production costs with a small profit. Hollywood is business, business is money, so money drives movies.
The film is loosely based on the novel. So there are bound to be differences. Just as a high-rise building is based on concrete. That doesn’t mean the building is made out of concrete. It’s made out of steel, glass and other materials. So if you read the novel, don’t be surprised to see differences in the plot.
The plot goes like this. A journalism school graduate lands a dream job as assistant to the editor of a prominent fashion magazine. Once on the job she’s a fish out of water. But gradually she begins to dress more stylishly and act more like the people she once made fun of. When a coworker who often makes fun of her makes a big mistake Andrea saves the day. As a result she’s asked to accompany her boss to a fashion show in Paris. While there she witnesses her boss ruthlessly destroy a coworker in order to save her own position.
The girl realizes she has become the very thing she once hated. She leaves the magazine to return to her boyfriend and a job as a journalist. But she has earned the grudging respect of both her former boss and the coworker who once made fun of her. In fact it’s her former boss who gives her the recommendation that gives her the job at the newspaper.
It was very popular. It’s possibly due to two reasons. One, as stated earlier, movies based on novels have a built in audience. More than likely many former readers went out to see the movie. Secondly, it’s a good story with a moral. It shows that in some professions people have to act ruthlessly to get ahead. But when people are true to themselves, they can find success.
If you haven’t already seen the Devil Wears Prada, it’s a good idea to rent. Or read the book. Or both.

Devils Film
December 25th, 2008 — About Devil
Devils Film isn’t a film about the devil. It’s not a film created by the devil. It won’t be used corrupt people or recruit them to hell. It’s not even a film at all. It’s a film company. The type of company that makes triple X. movies. That’s pornography.
Devils Film has been around for 15 years. It’s involved in hard-core film production. In at least according to the studio itself it’s a first-class production house. But given that in the adult film industry most actors and actresses call themselves superstars, this may also be an exaggeration. The studio says that its goal is to bring you the best of everything. That means the best adult stars, the best production qualities, and the best action. They do this because they say the viewer deserves it.
Devils Film is a hard-core production company. Pornographic films come in all flavors. Hard-core can be a little rough. According to the company they choose producers willing to go as far as it takes to satisfy the perverse tastes of their customers. When an adult film company talks about no limits you know there may be things in the movies that many people wouldn’t want to see.
Devils Film strives to satisfy their customers. One of the ways they do this is to offer four hour compilations of many of the best scenes in their top movies. They also feature many movies that include the famous MILF. That’s an abbreviation that comes from the movie American Pie. It means mothers I’d like to ? the last word is best left unwritten. Needless to say it has a lot to do with what goes on in these movies.
As many adult film companies do in the modern world, Devils Film has a website. This site includes information about all their movies, distribution which is an online store. It also includes a member section, which is almost a must have for any pornography film website. Unlike other sites this one charges per day. The fees are $.75 a day for a 90 day membership and $.99 a day for a 30 day membership. Over $20 a month or even $30 a month is a lot to pay to become a member of an adult website. They also have a three dollar option for a three day trial membership. Imagine going to a store and having to pay to just look at the product on the shelf. That’s what a trial membership is like.
In the world of adult movies Devils Film may not necessarily be the best company but it does have an interesting name.

Devil’s Tower
December 25th, 2008 — About Devil
If you ever seen the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind then you’ve seen the Devils Tower. This distinctive mountain landmark is hard to miss.
It became famous when Richard Dreyfuss began having visions of the Devils Tower with its flat top and ridged sides. Soon after having the visions he constructs a crew sculpture in his mashed potatoes. Needless to say his family is alarmed. He becomes more and more obsessed with the mountain. First he makes paintings of it, then he goes off the deep end. When he brings in piles of dirt from the yard to create a scale replica in his living room, his wife and kids leave him. It’s a very famous scene in the movie.
Eventually Richard’s character travels to Wyoming to see the real Devils Tower. Despite warnings from the military to stay away, he sneaks up to the mountain. There he sees an amazing spectacle. Aliens land after communicating with humans using a giant organ. Many people, abducted long ago, come off the ship. Richard’s character is amongst those who choose to travel with the aliens back to their home planet. Given the way Hollywood makes sequels, it’s surprising this open ending didn’t spawn a second movie. It still might. Later versions shown on television and released on DVD included scenes inside the ship. But these weren’t very well done.
Back to the real Devils Tower. It’s located in Wyoming. It’s a monolithic igneous intrusion, otherwise known as a volcanic neck. This is also known as a lava neck. It forms when magma flows out of a volcanic vent. It’s generally the sign of an active volcano. It’s not certain that this formation is such a plug. But many geologists believe it is.
The Indians have a legend about how Devils Tower was formed. Some Indian sisters were walking in the wilderness, picking flowers, when they came upon some bears. The bears chased them. The Great Spirit helped the girls by raising up the land upon which they stood. The Bears would not give up. They tried to climb up to the girls but as they neared the top slid back down. Their claws left the indentations in the side of the structure.
Another legend, this one told by the Sioux Indians, was of two boys wandering far from their village. A giant bear called Mato came upon them. It had claws the size of tepees, and it wanted to eat the boys for breakfast. The boys prayed to the creator to help them. He did, raising the ground beneath them. Just as with the stories involving the girls, and this one the giant bear tried to get at them from all sides but could not. Its huge claw marks remain.
Whether fantastic tales of giant bears or friendly aliens the Devils Tower is a great place to visit.

Devil Tattoos
December 24th, 2008 — About Devil
It’s bad enough that people get tattoos. Why someone would want to use their body as a canvas for pretty bad art is beyond some people. But when that turns to the subject of the dark with something like devil tattoos thats the height of the tattoo craziness. But devil tattoos don’t always have a sinister connotation.
The Devil is commonly a supernatural entity which embodies evil. It’s a concept of many Western religions. Many people don’t know that even the Muslim faith has its own version of the Devil. The devil has other names such as Satan, Lucifer, Beelzebub, and Mephistopheles. But in demon mythology each of these is a separate being. And they’re not necessarily evil. All of these are featured in various devil tattoos.
Here is the story of the devil in the Christian tradition. The Archangel Lucifer was second only to God in heaven. All angels were considered equal but Lucifer was considered the best among equals. But Lucifer became jealous of God himself. Lucifer thought he should rule in heaven. Lucifer recruited other angels in a revolt against God. God, Michael, and the other Archangels and Angels still loyal to God defeated Lucifer and his forces. The fallen archangel and his minions were cast out of heaven. Many of these elements are often depicted in Devil tattoos.
Devil tattoos derive their name from old English. So does the name of the devil, of course. The old English word was deofol, which itself came from the Latin word the diabolus. That word was derived from the Greek word diabolos. The word means to slander across or to hurl slander. The term now, in general, refers to a greater meaning of hell. In non-English languages devil generally derives from words meaning Angel. But strictly speaking in the culture from which these languages come, a devil is not the same thing as an angel. This gives a lot more fodder for Devil tattoos.
Devil tattoos have specific meanings. Someone who wears them is generally a little evil, or maybe even a lot evil. It could also mean mischief, or lewd behavior. It doesn’t necessarily mean the person who wears them as a criminal. But it tells you something about their own self image and about what to expect from them.
Devil tattoos sometimes carry a great stigma with them. Some people believe they are the symbol of the beast. That is, that they denote someone who actually worships or works for the Devil. That’s likely not true.
Take some good advice. Don’t get any tattoo, much less devil tattoos.

The Devil Went Down To Georgia
December 23rd, 2008 — About Devil
The Devil Went Down to Georgia is a popular song released in 1979 by the Charlie Daniels Band. It’s remained popular for nearly 30 years, and there’s no sign that people will ever grow tired of singing it.
The song’s roots are in a melody called ?Lonesome Fiddle Blues.? Charlie took the song, raised it an octave, and set lyrics to it. The song reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, making The Devil Went Down to Georgia the band’s most popular hit. The RIAA says that amongst songs with a state name in the title, this is the top seller of all time.
The plot is something like this. The devil is having a slow time finding souls, so he travels to Georgia in desperation. He’s willing to make deals. He happens upon a young fiddler named Johnny, to whom he offers one of these deals. The Devil challenges Johnny to a fiddle contest. If Johnny wins he receives the golden fiddle upon which the devil plays. The assumption is that the fiddle is worth a fortune. If the devil wins, however, Johnny loses his soul.
The devil goes first, and he’s a hard act to follow. He performs with a host of demons in a big production that sounds like something out of a rock opera. It seems Johnny, a simple boy with a fiddle, is doomed. But Johnny’s simple and pure fiddle work is even better. When he’s finished playing, there’s no argument. The devil gives him the golden fiddle. Johnny goads the devil, telling him ?I told you once you son of a gun I’m the best there’s ever been,? while challenging him to a rematch at any time. In the original version of the song, son of a gun was replaced by a more colorful phrase.
There have been countless remakes and parodies of the song. There’s a Spanish version called ?El Diablo bajo a Georgia?. In the cartoon ?Futurama? the heroes challenge the robot devil to a similar fiddle contest to save their robot friend. But after the robot devil plays they beat him in the head with the golden fiddle so they can escape. There’s a very clever music video of the song on Youtube titled ?Primus ? The Devil Went Down to Georgia?. It includes a very clever animated version of the story. Even Charlie Daniels got back in on the fun by recording a sequel with Johnny Cash. It was called ?The Devil Comes Back to Georgia?.
The Devil Went Down to Georgia was sung by Charlie Daniel’s band.
And if you heard ‘em sing it when it was done you’d give them boys a hand.

The Jersey Devil
December 22nd, 2008 — About Devil
The Jersey Devil has become a famous icon in leagues in Leeds Point New Jersey. In fact New Jersey’s hockey team in the NHL is named for this legendary creature. Over the years many claimed events have led to the growing mythology.
A hero of the Barbary wars, Commodore Stephen Decatur, was the first American war hero who was not part of the Revolutionary war. In other words he was well respected. He died in 1820 from wounds suffered during a duel. He left his wife $75,000, which was over $1 million in current money. His run in with the Jersey Devil involves his firing a cannonball at the creature. The claim is that the cannonball blew a hole in its stomach. Supposedly the creature wasn’t even fazed by this. It simply flew away into the distance.
Napoleon’s brother, Joseph Bonaparte, saw the Jersey Devil while he was hunting on his estates. He had settled in America and 1000 acres in the New Jersey area. He had formerly been king of Spain. So his word carries a lot of weight.
Throughout the 1800s many people reported that the Jersey Devil made raids on their property. It was reported to have stolen chickens, and sheep. This included a raid on Vincentown in 1899. Many people there reported many missing animals. In 1909 thousands of people claimed to have seen the monster. These people were from many of the 30 towns in the Delaware Valley.
Panic ensued in Burlington when footprints belonging to the Jersey Devil were found in backyards and on rooftops covered with snow. These were not normal human footprints. They were cloven hooves. At the same time Jacksonville hunters organized a search party to capture or kill the beast. But their hunting dogs, upon seeing and sniffing the footprints became so agitated that they would not follow them. A Glaucester city man claimed to have seen it walking around on his roof for about 10 minutes. He described it as about 3 ½ feet high with the head of a collie, the legs of a crane, the face of a horse and 2 foot wings.
There was a claim by a telephone lineman that the Jersey Devil attacked him. It chased him up a telephone pole. He was only saved when a coworker appeared, driving it off by shooting it in the wing. If a cannonball couldn’t harm it how could a mere bullet drive it off?
It’s likely that the Jersey Devil is nothing more than a series of different animals seen in the dark or under the influence of alcohol, combined with a vivid imagination. But the stories are still fun.

Devil Woman
December 22nd, 2008 — About Devil
In 1976 Cliff Richard recorded the song ?Devil Woman?. It was a big hit, reaching number nine on the UK charts. In the USA it made it as far as number six on the Billboard Hot 100. That was Richard’s biggest hit ever in the United States. Let’s learn more about this famous song.
It was written by Terry Britten. He was English singer-songwriter who wrote songs for people like Tina Turner, Olivia Newton John, and even Michael Jackson. Some of his other songs include ?What’s Love Got to Do with It?, and ?We Don’t Need Another Hero? from the movie ?Mad Max Beyond Thunder Dome?. Terry played the guitar on Cliff Richard’s recording of Devil Woman. The song was recorded at the famous Abbey Road, a frequent recording studio used by the Beatles.
The song tells a story. A man seems to be cursed after meeting a strange stray cat with evil eyes. He becomes concerned and eventually seeks the help of a medium, a gypsy woman, to remove the curse. But he’s stunned when he learns that the curse didn’t come from the cat. It was the gypsy woman placed a curse on him to lure him into her clutches.
Many songs like Devil Woman that have a story to tell are sparsely produced. In other words they are very simple songs. They have a minimum of instruments and generally simple tunes. Devil Woman is no different. The instruments used to record the song include a guitar, an electric piano, drums and percussion. And of course the singer.
For a pop song Devil Woman has unique combination of major and minor chords. It’s one of the earliest hit songs in the United States to encompass more than an octave of the musical range.
Other groups have covered, or performed, the song. The Accused is one of them. The band was founded in 1981 in Washington. Its style is what they called splatter rock. Many of the sounds in their music are made to mimic the sounds from the horror movies that they loved. These include shrieking lyrics, and chainsaw like guitar riffs.
In 2005 Cradle of Faith covered Devil Woman. This was an extreme metal band from England. Their songs were in the style of the band had said any kind of metal. Given their reputation and style of music this song was perfect for them.
No matter who plays it, Devil Woman is a devilish song.

Devil May Cry 3
December 21st, 2008 — About Devil
Devil May Cry 3, is the second sequel to the popular video game. It was released in 2005 by Capcom after heavy criticism for the first sequel. Let’s take a closer look at this video game.
The original game was very popular. The sequel wasn’t so popular. So when Capcom made Devil May Cry 3 they returned to many of the elements that made the first video game such a success. This includes game difficulty, larger environments, and a revamped battle engine. The game sold 1.3 million units around the world. It was considered a financial success. Game Informer called it one of the top video games of 2005. Many reviewers believed its fighting engine was superior to other similar games. It was released for both the PS2 and PC.
The main character Dante is attacked by demons sent by his brother Vergil. When Dante defeats these creatures, a giant tower erupts out of the ground near his shop. He senses his brother somewhere in the tower. He then enters the tower fighting various demons and monsters whose life energy transforms into weapons after he defeats them. These weapons are useful on subsequent levels.
But in the course of fighting through the tower and battling his brother, Dante learns that a man named Arkham is manipulating them in order to reactivate the tower, steal a powerful sword from the demon world, and use it to rule over the earth. Dante and Vergil eventually defeat the Arkham, then fight over the powerful sword, called the Force Edge. Dante wins the sword, and his brother chooses to stay behind in the demon world.
It’s not much of a plot, but it drives the game action which is based on levels each of which has a boss. In general the levels become more difficult. In Japan the game had a hard mode, which was quite difficult. Capcom made the decision to convert this into the normal mode in the North American release. That meant that the hard mode in North America was even more difficult, considered by many to be too hard. Even reviewers who liked the game criticized its difficulty.
This shows the difficulty of making video games. The first sequel had been criticized for being too easy. Capcom adjusted by increasing the difficulty of Devil May Cry 3 only to have that one criticized for being too difficult. Sometimes it’s to the point that if a video game creator could walk on water people would complain that he doesn’t know how to swim.
By now Devil May Cry 3 is quite dated. But in its time it was a fun game that many people played.

Devils Tower Wyoming
December 20th, 2008 — About Devil
The Devils Tower Wyoming is a mountain originally made famous in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It has a very distinctive look with a flat top and deep ridges all along its size sides. In fact in the movie, it was replicated in mashed potatoes and in dirt from someone’s backyard. Eventually some aliens landed there. While truth may not be stranger than fiction in this case, it’s still an interesting place.
Lets clear something up from the start. When it’s written ?Devils Tower Wyoming? that doesn’t refer to a town or city in Wyoming, it refers to this mountain. Speaking of which, the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point has some amazing topographical maps on its website. They describe the elevation of this location and give a very complete view of how this natural structure looms above the surrounding countryside. It really is an awesome site.
Yet one more clarification about Devils Tower Wyoming. Notice that when it’s written the apostrophe is missing. In other words, one would expect an apostrophe?s? at the end of devil in the name. But the name has never been written that way. So don’t be alarmed, or think it’s a mistake when it’s seen without the apostrophe before the ?s.?
Devils Tower Wyoming became a national monument on September 24, 1906. It was an act of President Theodore Roosevelt, known popularly as Teddy. He was never called that by his close friends. He was also responsible for the US involvement in the Panama Canal. The national monument encompasses 5.45 square kilometers. That’s 1374 acres.
The Devils Tower Wyoming stands 1267 feet above the surrounding land. It’s nearly a mile above sea level. That’s big. Even so, the size and sheer height have not stopped people from climbing it. In fact, of the 400,000 people who visit each year, about 4000 make the climb. It’s certainly not as dangerous as a place like Mount Everest. Of course, the most dangerous part of climbing Mount Everest is getting down the mountain. That’s because so many people climb that there is a line, an actual queue, to make the descent. People often die of exposure to the elements while waiting. That doesn’t happen at the Devils Tower.
Devils Tower Wyoming first began to form about 200 million years ago during the Triassic Period. It includes various types of rocks from sandstone, to silt stone, and shale. This combination makes for quite a colorful disposition.

Tasmanian Devil
December 19th, 2008 — About Devil
Many people are familiar with the Tasmanian Devil from its depiction in Looney Tunes cartoons as a foil for Bugs Bunny. But the cartoon depiction bears little actual resemblance to the now endangered animal. Like most animals, this one is an interesting reminder of the diversity of species that roam the Earth.
First let’s get to that looney and tuney Tasmanian Devil, also called Taz. This stylized version of the marsupial was first featured in Devil May Hare, a cartoon short released in 1954. He stalks Bugs Bunny, trying to eat him, but is no match for the quick witted hare. The character wasn’t popular at the studio, and so was quickly set aside for being too obnoxious. But so many fans wrote in wondering what had become of the character that Warner Brothers that he was revived for a number of shorts in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. It wasn’t until the 1990’s that the character was repackaged as ?Taz.? This sent it soaring to new popularity as one of the most recognized Warner Brothers cartoon characters. He even spawned a kid version, ?Dizzy Devil,? who was featured in Tiny Toon Adventures.
As stated earlier the cartoon Tasmanian Devil resembled the real thing only in a general way, and in it’s wild behavior while eating. The cartoon version also incorporated elements of the horned devil. In reality these animals look a lot like stout, strong dogs. Their tail is almost as long as the rest of the body, and is also where the animal stores fat. Thus a thin tailed one is generally unhealthy.
The Tasmanian Devil is pretty fast. They can run at about 8 miles per hour for short distances. They have long, sensitive whiskers used to find food at night, when they usually hunt. As a result of this habit, their hearing and smell are far more developed than their sense of sight. In fact, they have trouble seeing objects that aren’t moving.
Relative to its size the Tasmanian Devil has the strongest bite of any mammal. This is due in large part to their relatively large head and to teeth that continue to grow throughout its life. As far as lifespan, they generally live about six years in the wild, but longer in captivity.
The largest mammal remaining in Australia, not counting man, is the Tasmanian Devil. It is found only on the island of Tasmania, although it once thrived on mainland Australia. After the Thylacine became extinct in the 1930’s, the threat to the Tasmanian Devil was recognized. They were hunted to near extinction by people who felt they were a nuisance. They were even eaten, described as having a veal taste.
Today the Tasmanian Devil is protected. And thanks to cartoons, well known in the world.

Devil Doll
December 19th, 2008 — About Devil
Devil Doll is the name of a variety of different things. Some of these will be discussed in this article.
Devil Doll is a character in a flash animation web series called Redskull and Devil Doll. Redskull is a giant floating skull with a mohawk haircut. He loves rock ‘n roll music. He will often break into impromptu rock ‘n roll performances, first uttering his catchphrase ?let’s kick it.? His buddy is a little demon. He has a squeaky voice, but can rap with the best of them. He claims to be a hit with the ladies. He has some demonic powers, and often wakes up his friend was mass quantities of coffee. There were eight episodes produced.
The next Devil Doll was a 1936 horror film. It starred Lionel Barrymore, Drew Barrymore’s great uncle, and Maureen O’Sullivan. Barrymore plays an escaped convict. While in prison his cell mate was a mad scientist who had developed a method to shrink people. He intended to use this to help mankind by shrinking them so they would use less resources. But the scientists dies shortly after their escape. Barrymore uses the shrinking technique to exact revenge on his enemies. The idea of the danger of mankind using up resources is popular today.
In 1964 another Devil Doll film was made. This one was about an evil ventriloquist. Hugo, his dummy, actually contains the soul of a former assistant. Now the ventriloquist wants to create a female companion for Hugo, complete with the soul of his next victim. The film ends with the soul inside the dummy taking over the body of the ventriloquist. The evil ventriloquist is now trapped inside the dummy’s body.
There’s an experimental rock band called Devil Doll. This band began with a man called Mr. Doctor. He took out ads in newspapers. Eventually two groups formed. One was in Italy, while the other one was in what’s now Slovania. In 1991 when the Soviet Union fell, the two groups were combined. In 2005 after a long period in which the band produced no music, a fan began a letter writing campaign. The letters asked the band to produce more music, and were compiled into a book. For his efforts the fan received a signed copy of an original print of one of the bands popular songs.
Colleen Duffy, a rockabilly singer, goes by the name Devil Doll. She calls herself the next up-and-coming music sensation. But apparently not many people have been impressed.
Devil Doll sure names a lot of different things.
